Czech Republic ratify Lisbon Treaty (03/11/2009)
The signing of the treaty follows the ruling by the Czech constitutional court that the contents of the Lisbon Treaty were in line with the Czech constitution.
Chris Bryant said:
"I welcome the news that President Klaus has signed the Czech Republic's instrument of ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. With the completion of Czech ratification, all 27 Member States have ratified the Treaty, which we expect to come into force on 1 December."
Both the Government and Parliament have reached a settled view that the Treaty is good for Britain and good for the EU. We need the EU to be far more effective on the world stage and to be more efficient in the way it does business.
Every other government in Europe is looking forward to the end of this decade of navel gazing so the EU can focus on the real issues that matter for families: jobs and growth, security and tackling climate change."
